A Tradition In Ranching
Meet Walt and Helen Semingson
                              Back around 1902, there were two ranches that were being homesteaded.  In North Dakota , Walt Semingsons parents were getting started and on the west border of their ranch, in Montana, there was another ranch startup underway.
                             A few years later, two of the children of these adjoining ranches got married in 1944 and started a ranch and family of their own. A ranching tradition is hard to get away from and Walt, Helen and their four children have all grown up in that tradition and it continues to this day.
                              Having owned and operated cattle and horse ranches in Arizona, North Dakota, Oregon and Idaho since the turn of the century, the Semingson family knows what it takes to make ranching a successful career. 
                               Smoke Rise Ranch, in the Hocking Hills Region of southeastern Ohio, is no different than any of the other places, except in locality. Ranching is not a common thing in Ohio and the fact that since 1991, there is a 2000 acre working ranch in the state, is a huge attraction to the public. The fact that there is good grass and water in Ohio, was one of the major drawing points to the state. Then came the opportunity to expand the scope of the ranch, by allowing the public to come experience the western lifestyle,inviting urban cowboys and cowgirls from all over, to get involved with the cattle drives, trail rides, team pennings and other events common to ranching. To attract people to the ranch, several amenities were added. Over ninety campsites , six rustic cabins, deluxe cabins and several trailers and campers have been added to the ranch. Also, a lodge with a hot tub and an inground, heated pool add to our guests comfort while staying here.

                             Now that you know a little bit about us, We'd like to extend the invitation to come spend a little time with us.
